Coils and IUS
We also provide intrauterine devices and systems (Coil/Mirena).
Mirena, Benilexa and Levosert IUS are now effective for contraception for 8 years.
Please only book for a refit of your IUS if it has been in situ for nearly 8 years. If it was fitted after age 45 then it does not need changing and you should arrange removal at age 55.
We can only insert Intrauterine systems (IUS) for contraception.
If you require a coil for reasons other than contraception, please see your GP. We do not fit coils for HRT and we cannot change them earlier if your bleeding pattern changes before 8 years.
Contraception
Our contraception service provides the full range of methods, including:
- Combined and Progesterone only pills
- External condoms
- Emergency contraceptive pill (morning after pill).
Long acting reversible methods such as
- Injectables
- Implants
Attending appointments
When you come to the clinic, please do not bring any children with you and where possible attend alone.
