Meet our Health Visitors for Safer Sleep advice at the St Nicholas Centre

Sutton’s Health Visiting Team will be at the St. Nicholas Centre, Sutton, on Tuesday 11 March 2025, from 10 am to 3 pm, providing expert advice on safer sleep practices for babies. The event coincides with Safer Sleep Week (March 10-16), a national campaign led by The Lullaby Trust to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and provide crucial guidance to parents and carers.
Located outside Kiddistop in the St. Nicholas Centre, the Health Visiting Team will offer support and information on creating a safe sleep environment. Key topics will include the importance of placing babies on their backs to sleep on a firm, flat surface, free from soft bedding, pillows, and cushions.
"We want families to feel empowered and confident in choosing safe sleep practices for their babies," said Beth Wilson, Head of Children's Services at Sutton Health and Care, "especially in vulnerable or emergency situations when a cot or Moses basket may not be available.
“Our Health Visiting Team can advise on practical steps to create safe sleeping environments that significantly lower the chances of SIDS and other sleep-related dangers."
This evidence-based advice is crucial for all sleep periods, day and night. Following these guidelines has contributed to a remarkable 81% reduction in SIDS deaths over the past 30 years.
